Mismatch Uncertainty Calculator

Be honest now.... Have you still got a well-used, cardboard slide-rule called the HP Reflectometer Calculator (part # 5952-0948) tucked away in a desk drawer? It was a great tool, but now you've managed to persuade the boss that an expensive PC is necessary to perform your measurement analysis, have you got the nerve to be seen using that famous old slide-rule? But how else to do those tricky calculations?

Luckily, Chris Grachanen of Hewlett-Packard (formerly Compaq) has produced the Mismatch Uncertainty Calculator.

This Windows95® FREEWARE is designed to perform uncertainty analysis associated with microwave mismatch components, conversions between Reflection Coefficient, Return Loss and SWR as well as various other microwave calculations. It's especially useful for calculating uncertainties associated with calibrating 2-port symmetric devices, such as attenuators, directional couplers and filters and for determining mismatch loss for either a perfect load or source.

Opinion

Perhaps not as convenient as that faithful slide-rule if you're not at your desk, but it capably handles the sometimes complex calculations necessary to determine the accuracy of microwave calibrations. Experience suggests that this program may not be fully usable under WinNT®. Computation works fine but there's no on-line help or, most importantly, ability to print your work or use the clipboard.
